The Review:
The Platinum Procyon is a remarkably balanced fountain pen that has quickly become a staple in my everyday carry. While it features a simple, understated design, the performance is anything but basic. After testing the medium nib for over a month, I found that it writes more like a traditional fine, offering that signature Platinum feedback that is perfect for small, precise handwriting. The ink flow is consistently flawless, thanks in part to an upgraded feed system that handles standard inks beautifully and even manages mild shimmers without issue. The "Slip & Seal" technology is a standout feature here, effectively eliminating hard starts or drying issues, even when the pen has been sitting for a while.
In terms of ergonomics, the Procyon feels great in the hand whether you prefer to write with the cap posted or unposted. Maintenance is straightforward as well; the nib unit can be pulled out for deep cleaning, which is a major plus for long-term care. There are a few minor drawbacks to consider, such as the fact that converters are sold separately and the proprietary nibs are not interchangeable, making replacements difficult to source. However, for a pen that typically sits under $100, the value is undeniable. It is a reliable, high-performing tool that has easily earned its spot as one of my favorite picks for daily use.
