The Review:

The Diplomat Aero is an exceptional writing instrument that immediately stands out with its sleek, lightweight metal body and eye-catching, streamlined design. Right out of the box, the steel medium nib delivered a flawlessly wet and consistent ink flow without requiring any tuning or experiencing startup issues—even after sitting unused for two days. Ergonomically, it strikes a superb balance; unlike many pens where you clearly prefer writing posted or unposted, its smooth snap-cap mechanism and comfortable weight distribution make it feel completely natural in the hand either way. Maintenance and long-term upkeep are equally effortless: the single-channel feed handled shimmer inks impressively well over two weeks of testing without a single clog, and the entire pen disassembles easily for thorough cleaning.

On the page, the size medium steel nib provides a delightfully smooth feel across a variety of paper types, showing only a slight, gentle feedback when pushed on lower-quality copy paper. Taking a common converter and a friction-fit #6 nib—with Diplomat conveniently offering full section replacements—the swap process is straightforward, even if friction-fit nibs present a slight quirk for some users. Priced around $200 to $250, the Aero’s precision engineering, sturdy build, and reliable feed system make the investment feel well justified for the level of performance you receive. It is a fantastic option for stationery enthusiasts and professionals looking for a head-turning, exceptionally reliable daily driver that transitions seamlessly into any office setting.
